For 2020/2021 we are delighted to have been selected as one of the supported organisations that will benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

You can help support the Band by shopping at your local Co-op and as a member (it only costs £1 to join) coop.co.uk/membership you can select the Band as the Community cause you would like to support.

Our project has developed from that in our initial application to be part of the funding.

We are now looking at innovative ways to restart our after school and community tuition. Since the start of the current pandemic our performing and teaching activities have been severely curtailed. Even with schools restarting, as an outside group, we are not currently permitted access into school premises. In addition, the fact that the Great Highland Bagpipe is a wind instrument has also limited what and where we can teach and practice. In addition to our current online practices we are now planning to recommence face to face tuition. This will involve purchasing electronic practice chanters to allow students and tutors to interact safely. As a band with a strong youth element this will help us maintain and promote traditional Scottish music and culture with the younger generation within our area.

And not forgetting the drummers, the face to face tuition has benefits over online tuition which still suffers from poor audio synchronisation when trying to play together. Suitable accommodation, facilities and equipment are necessary for all.

Remember, support the Band by shopping at your local Co-op and becoming a member coop.co.uk/membership. Then, by selecting the Band as your supported cause your shopping will contibute to the funding available to North Berwick Pipe Band.

Many thanks in anticipation.
